The History book of Toei

The town of Toei is known as a historical treasure and folklore. The Toei board of education has been compiling the history book of Toei to record the abundant history, climate and culture of our town. We would like to teach you the history of our town. Please purchase the book as a guide to getting to know the history of our town.

@There are many traditional folkloric events in Toei such as the Hana Matsuri, Shika uchi sinji, and Bon odori dance. Volume three covers these events with plentiful photographs and detailed explanations.

Volume Two : "Epigraphs"

@Epigraph are lines of writing on statues, building, etc. There are many statues, such as Batou Kannon and Jizou in Toei, They have a lot of epigraphs. Volume two features these valued records, and classifies them into statues of Buddhist images, stone structures, and utensils of the temples and shrines. The book contains over 600 photographs and deciphered sentences within 400 pages.

Appendix: Catalog of epigraphs (those have clear names of the eras before the Edo era)

*The epigraphs are recorded as a result of an ongoing research project from 1999 to 2000.

*The epigraphs are classified into categories and the original sentences have been deciphered.

*The gods of the villages, such as Fudou Myouou, Gyouja, Koushin, have all been recorded.

*The oldest stone epigraph was made in 1598, and the oldest epigraph was written in 1537 on a wooden plate.




Volume One : "Historical Documents
of the Edo Era"

Volume one features about 350 historical documents of the Edo era. The foundation of our ancestor's lifestyle was formed during the Edo era, from 1603 to 1867. We know this era as being the era when Toei was founded.

This book introduces various records written by the people who lived in the specific era as well as photographs and comments. In addition, the separate volumes feature 18 old maps of the old villages in Toei .. These maps have been reproduced in colour and attached to the commented maps are deciphered sentences to aid in the comprehension of the materials.

A catalogue of historical documents

Over 16,000 historical documents have been discovered in Toei because of the the research projects. The catalogue classified 10,000 documents by village and owner. Most of which are older than the Edo era,
