Shika Uchi Sinji

Shikauchi shinji
The Shinto priest shoots the icon of wild deer
which made with leaves and branches.



Natural disasters and damage of crops by wild animals such as wild boars and deers have been distressing our ancestors.

Shika Uchi Sinji, a religious event, has begun from the village people's invocation for good harvests and less damage from the wild animals.

"Shika Uchi", means deer shooting and the event uses an icon of wild deer which is made from ceder or Japanese laurel leaves. The Shintou priest shoot the icon with a bow and arrow. The Shika Uchi event is listed as a folkloric art work of Aichi Prefecture.

Please get off the Tomei Express Way at the Toyokawa interchange. Then head north on the Kokudou 151 (Route 151, in the direction of Iida city).

After 70 minutes of driving (45 kms), you will arrive in Toei.

Area Access by car
Tsuki Pass through the Shin-hongou tunnel and the Komakubo tunnel. Go straight at the second three-way-stop (no traffic signals). Cross the Meijibashi bridge and the Sekireihashi bridge. Turn left at the first intersection (with traffic signals) and go straight on route 473 (R473, in the direction of Shitara).

Go straight for 2 kilometres, turn right and get on the narrow road.
Fukawa Pass through the Shin-hongou tunnel and the Komakubo tunnel. Go straight at the second three-way-stop (no traffic signals). Cross the Meijibashi bridge and the Sekireihashi bridge. Go straight at the first intersection (with traffic signals) and go straight on ROUTE 151 (R151, in the direction of Toyone).

Go straight for 3 kilometres and turn left down a narrow road. Then, go straight for 200 metres.
Kobayashi Pass through the Shin-hongou tunnel and Komakubo tunnel. Go straight at the second three-way-stop (no traffic signals). Cross the Meijibashi bridge and the Sekireihashi bridge. Go straight at the first intersection (with traffic signals) and go straight on ROUTE 151 (R151, in the direction of Toyone).

Go straight for 3.5 kilometres, turn left and go straight for 3 kilometres.
Futto Pass through the Shin-hongou tunnel and the Komakubo tunnel. Go straight at the second three-way-stop (no traffic signals). Cross the Meijibashi bridge and the Sekireihashi bridge, go straight at the first intersection (with traffic signals) and go straight on ROUTE 151 (R151, in the direction of Toyone).

Go straight for 4 kilometres and turn left. Go straight for 300 metres, turn left and get onto Kendou 80. Go straight for 800 metres.
