Tsutano huchi pool

It is called "Niagara fall"
of Oku Mikawa

Tsutanohuchi pool

This beautiful waterfall has a width of 30 metres and a height of 10 metres.

Tsutano huchi is a large pool of water which is locataed on the middle reach of the Oochise River. The Oochise River flows from the top of Mt. Oosuzu through Toei. It has many deep pools and some pot holes.

The waterfall has been formed by the excavation action by the river and the difference of the hardness of the riverbed. The upstream riverbed (cliff of the waterfall) is silicified andesite and it is hard. The riverbed of the pool is black mudstone, it is soft. The river water has been scouring the soft mudstone for a long time, and the pool gets deeper and deeper.

The waterfall is known as the Niagara falls of the Oku Mikawa area (the northeast part of Aichi prefecture).
