The old tree is 11 metres in high and 3 metres wide.

Shidare sakura of Ryuudouin temple is an old Japanese cherry tree (Prunus pendula). It is one of the most famous trees in the Kitashitara district. It belongs to the Ryuudouin Temple and is on the left side of the Hondou (main edifice) of the temple. "Shidare" in English is, "Hanging" and rightfully so as the branches hang down from the tree and over the ground.

In early April, the tree blooms millions of cherry blossoms which nearly cover the temple and most of the yard. It is really spectacular. The age of this tree is estimated at about 150 years of age and it has been listed as a natural monument of Aichi prefecture.
