![]() A Saino Kami of Shimoda village Would you like to visit the 17 Saino Kamis in Toei? Saino Kami is astone statues of the local god that has been guarding the village people safely for over 400 years. Our ancestors believed the gods saved them from natural disasters, accidents during excursions, and diseases, so they built many statues beside the walkways, passes, and on the borders. The gods are also worshiped when praying for a good relationship between husbands and wives and also serves as a fertility god. Today, the residents of Toei truly believe in their gods. There are many Saino Kamis in our town and 17 statues are listed as part of the folklorist works of Aichi Prefecture. Please enjoy a tour of the 17 Saino Kamis in and around Toei as well as birdwatching and therapeutic walks throught he forests. |

Then, head north on the Kokudou 151 (Route 151, in the direction of Iida city). After 70 minutes of driving (45 km), you will arrive in Toei. The 17 Saino Kamis are interspersed within the town area, so please obtain a tourist map from the Toei Kyouiku Iinkai (Toei Board of Education). 2003/10/01 Update |
