Aya-sugi
at Susanoo Shrine

Ayasugi has a trunk with a diameter of 840 centimetres and it is 45 meters high.

Toei town and the Kitashitara county are well-known forestry areas. Ayasugi is a huge Japanese ceder (Cryptomeria japonica), which represents the fame of the region.

Ayasugi has two trunks and they both meet together at the trunk of the tree. "Aya" means meet or join in Japanese and "Sugi" means ceder. Thus, the ceder is called, ``Aya-sugi.`` The age of this Japanese ceder tree is estimated at about 400 years.

This gigantic cedar tree is one of the most magnificant trees in Aichi prefecture and it is listed as a natural monument of Aichi prefecture.
